At the worst of the cold we have started to distribute food, blankets, wood-stoves, gas-heaters, and again some fire-wood. All day long phone calls, discussions with colleagues, bargaining with distributors, shops, churches, families – endless. But what a delight to see what we could do against the bitter cold.
Sokol, one of our chaplains wrote to me: “I never enjoyed my work more than these days. All the help came exactly at the right time”. This is made possible because of yoúr support – you deserve a big Thank You!
We started without a budget, but your support has helped a lot. We’re not done yet, there is (always) more to do, to care for, and to look after. For the moment we donated food parcels, hundreds of blankets, a couple of gas-heaters, several wood-stoves and many m3 firewood.
Any other support that we receive will be used to help those families that need ongoing support. As Marjana, our new administrative co-worker said: “Why not make our beneficiaries independent from our support, and restore their dignity”.
That means we need to invest in some families so they indeed become independent from any support. We’ll work on that, and with your support it will have a great impact on these families.
The Bible reminds us often on the poor and needy people that we are supposed to help. And when we do care for those people, we will receive our reward:
Then the Lord your God will bless you in all that you do. Deut.15:18
